Qdos shows its ability to deliver solutions for the film & TV industry.

When the hugely popular ITV show, Dancing On Ice returned to our screens after a four year hiatus the producers were determined to recreate the visual spectacle and high tempo that it was so famous for. Opting for a large scale temporary studio build this time around, which was delivered by temporary structure specialist Arena Group, the programme’s technical site management company CSG Events called upon Qdos Event Hire to provide temporary accommodation and welfare services during the build and breakdown periods, rehearsals and live shows.

The Qdos team’s first delivery was mid-October when they installed a 12’ x 9’ open plan office with a sink for the traffic team and two double-stacked 32’ x 10’ cabins for use as a tech & facilities office, the first unit was split 30/40/30 whilst the second came with dedicated toilet and kitchen spaces. There were then several deliveries throughout October, November and December as the build progressed.

During that period the team delivered:

  • 4 x 20’ x 8’ containers for electrical equipment and general site storage
  • 4 x 20’ x 8’ containers for lighting equipment
  • 2x 24’ x 9’ cabins for use as a locker room and additional office
  • 4 x 20’ x 9’ cabins for use as a security office/ reception, dressing rooms and props
  • 3 x 32’ x 10’ open plan cabins for wardrobe, dimmer galleries and an additional office space

Once the festive period was over and rehearsals commenced as the first live show loomed the Qdos team returned to site with the next raft of accommodation and the toilets that were now required. This included the delivery of an impressive 20’ x 32’ open plan modular building which would be used as a gallery area for the lighting and graphics team and three 12’ x 9’ cabins that were used by the power provider and as a radio shack and gallery kitchen. An additional two 8’ x 8’ containers for general site storage were also delivered.

Qdos also supplied several toilets for use by the crew, security, audience and Dancing on Ice judges:

  • 3 x 4 + 2 luxury vacuum toilet trailers,
  • 3+1+disabled luxury vacuum toilet trailers
  • 2 x disabled toilets
  • 4 bay traditional toilet trailer
  • Single plastic toilet

The majority of Qdos’ kit remained onsite until the middle of March as the site continued to be in use once the live shows had ended as a rehearsal space for the 2018 tour.

Dancing on Ice is presented by Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield and features Olympic winners Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean, who returned as judges this time around. The show’s return was an enormous success, with Jake Quickenden crowned the eventual winner, and will return for another series in January 2019.
