Chelsea Flower Show

Chelsea Flower Show – case study

Qdos Event Hire supplied temporary accommodation to this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, in the first of a three-year contract with the RHS. The team delivered more than 25 cabins and mobile offices, for a variety of purposes, including: offices and a mess area for the show’s organising team; offices for official contractors; accreditation areas; an IT room and a media facility.

To fulfil the contract, Qdos invested in new kit and took delivery of a brand new 40’ cabin and six 20’ cabins, including one specifically commissioned by the RHS for their accreditation office, in time for the prestigious event. The bespoke design has a unique configuration to meet its exact requirements. In addition, several of the cabins were supplied in green, to blend in with the green site at Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Given the location and layout of Royal Hospital Chelsea and some of the areas where cabins are sited, amongst trees etc., Chelsea Flower Show is often considered to be fairly challenging logistically.  This was all factored into the planning stages, with due attention given to timings, everything was painstakingly scheduled in advance to ensure smooth delivery once onsite. The first wave of the event build saw cabins delivered and installed on 27th and 28th April, with a dedicated Qdos project manager in attendance.

BMW PGA Championship

BMW PGA Championship – case study

The European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship returned to Wentworth from 25th – 28th May with a new first tee experience and music from Status Quo and the Kaiser Chiefs. Qdos Event Hire was on-hand throughout to provide temporary accommodation and welfare facilities for organisers, players and spectators alike.

With an event build that began with the delivery of six cabins for use as site, Health & Safety and admin offices, eight steel stores and a variety of jackleg and plastic toilets, at the tail end of March, this was a large project for the Qdos team.

Additional cabins, storage containers and toilets were delivered to the site throughout April and May so that when the tournament began on Thursday 25th there were more than 100 units onsite.

The cabins supplied were for a multitude of uses including: offices for IT, security and medical staff; a referees’ lounge; areas for the scoreboard operators and stores for water, buggy hire and the park and ride.

Qdos also provide an anti-doping facility, this specialist cabin comes complete with a built-in toilet for use by officials.

The cabins were supplied in a wide range of sizes; 12’, 20’, 24’, 32’ and 40’ with a variety of configurations including open plan, large windows, 50/50, 60/40, 70/30, 40/30/30 and 70/20/10 splits.

Toilet facilities were provided across the 18-hole course at Wentworth, with a combination of plastic and jackleg male, female and disabled units in use throughout the build-up of the event and tournament itself. These were fully serviced and maintained by Qdos’ in-house team.

The Voice 2017

The Voice 2017 Case Study

Qdos Event Hire provided offices, dressing rooms and toilets at LH2 in North West London for the recording and broadcasting of the live shows of this year’s series of The Voice this February, March and April. Qdos worked directly for technical site management company CSG Events, who were appointed by ITV to oversee the additional infrastructure required to deliver the live shows.

Qdos installed a 20ft x 32ft open plan office, constructed from CTX modular bays, for use as a lighting gallery production area. To utilise the space this was built on top of storage containers the same size. The company also provided two 24ft x 9ft open plan and double stacked event offices that served as an office for Digital Technologies, the team responsible for managing the live vote and three dressing rooms for use by guest artists, vocal rehearsals and additional capacity for the live shows. In addition, Qdos supplied male, female and disabled toilets and a security office.

The project culminated with the show’s final on 1st and 2nd April when Mo Adeniran crowned the winner. The Qdos team returned to site as soon as the show went off air and had removed all of the kit overnight due to restrictions as the venue.

Iraq & Afghanistan Memorial

Iraq & Afghanistan Case Study

When the HPower Group was asked to produce the Service of Dedication for the unveiling of the Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial in Victoria Embankment Gardens, London at 11am on the 9th March 2017, Qdos Event Hire was the sole supplier of temporary accommodation and welfare facilities.

Work commenced on the project for Qdos on 1st March when they delivered two 24ft x 9ft cabins, one with a 50/50 split, and an 18ft x 7ft 6” mobile office for use as event and site offices by HPower Group’s production team. In addition, a wide range of WCs from Qdos’ comprehensive offering was supplied for the event, including more than ten luxury vacuum toilet trailers, in various configurations to accommodate male, female and disabled guests. An experienced Qdos project manager oversaw the installation and remained onsite to ensure everything ran smoothly from their perspective.

Working within Horse Guards and Embankment Gardens presents its own challenges, given its historical and cultural significance. Obviously, security is very tight and stopping work, for the Changing of the Guard each day, had to be factored into Qdos’ schedules. Luckily the team has plenty of experience working at the venue from previous projects and this coupled with its great working relationship with HPower Group made for a successful project.
